Carballo lies on the Costa da Morte, open to the Atlantic Ocean. Much of its coastline is taken up by the Razo-Baldaio natural area, part of the Natura 2000 network and designated a special protection area for birds: the beach at Razo, with a section of fossil beach, is joined by a dune system to the Baldaio lagoon and salt marsh. North of Baldaio, between A Pedra do Sal and Caión, small beaches and coves follow one another among rocks and cliffs, disappearing at high tide.
