About the coast in Asturias
By Equipe editorial GTM Labs · Updated
The Cantabrian Sea washes the coast of Asturias, which stretches between Castropol and Bustio. It is a coastline of cliffs, capes, lighthouses and estuaries, such as those of the Eo, Navia, Nalón, Avilés, Villaviciosa, Ribadesella/Ribeseya and Tina Mayor. On the eastern coast, the Picos de Europa drop to the Cantabrian Sea in barely twenty kilometres.
The beaches of the west are shaped by the Atlantic wind, such as Penarronda and Frexulfe; in the central stretch, whose northernmost point is Peñes, lie the dunes of Xagó and San Lorenzo beach in Gijón/Xixón. The east has fine golden sand beaches such as Rodiles and La Griega, and blowholes (bufones) such as those of Pría, Arenillas and Santiuste. Several beaches are declared natural monuments, among them Penarronda, Frexulfe, Gulpiyuri and Cobijeru.
