About Praia de Carnota

By Equipe editorial GTM Labs · Updated

Carnota beach, on the Costa da Morte, is the longest in Galicia: some 7 km of crescent-shaped sand. At low tide the strip of sand can be up to a kilometre wide. Behind the beach lie dunes and the Carnota and Caldebarcos marshes, which drain into the sea through the A Boca do Río channel between them; the whole area is protected within the Carnota-Monte Pindo Natura site. A council walking route covers some 3 km of sand, passing A Boca do Río, as far as the Caldebarcos headland; at high tide it is very difficult to cross at A Boca do Río.
