About the coast in Galicia

By Equipe editorial GTM Labs · Updated

Galicia is washed by the Atlantic Ocean and the Cantabrian Sea, which meet at Estaca de Bares. Its coast opens into rías, long arms of the sea that reach inland, with cliffs, beaches, pine woods and fishing villages. The Rías Altas, in the north, combine cliffs, beaches, fishing towns and lighthouses.

The Rías Baixas, those of Vigo, Pontevedra, Arousa and Muros-Noia, link stretches of rocky, cliff-lined coast with wide sandy beaches, and between the Arousa and Vigo rías lie the islands of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia Maritime-Terrestrial National Park. Beyond the Muros e Noia ría, and especially north of Fisterra, the Costa da Morte is a rugged stretch of coast, with cliffs such as those at Cabo Vilán and sandy beaches such as Carnota.
