About the coast in the province of Cádiz

By Equipe editorial GTM Labs · Updated

The province of Cádiz, in the south of the Iberian Peninsula, has a coastline washed by the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, with the Strait of Gibraltar to the south. The Costa de la Luz has long beaches of fine sand, many of them still undeveloped. There are town beaches, such as La Victoria in Cádiz or La Barrosa in Chiclana de la Frontera, and others little changed by tourism, such as Bolonia in Tarifa and El Palmar in Vejer de la Frontera, alongside coastal spots such as Los Caños de Meca in Barbate.

Sanlúcar de Barrameda, at the mouth of the Guadalquivir, faces Doñana National Park. The Strait Natural Park (Parque Natural del Estrecho) is a land and marine protected area between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, with cliffs and wave-cut platforms on one side of Tarifa and sandy beaches on the other. Within the park, the Bolonia dune is a Natural Monument and Los Lances beach a Natural Site (Paraje Natural).

Getting to know the sea in the province of Cádiz

Wind

Winds here have names: levante (from the east) and poniente (from the west).

In La Línea de la Concepción, the forecast gives the wind by its direction only.

Each beach page uses these names when they blow, and they count in the verdict like any other wind. Each name links to its definition.

Tide

Tidal coast: each beach page marks the day's high and low tide, estimated by a model (not a tide-gauge measurement).

In La Línea de la Concepción, already on the Mediterranean, the tide varies by only a few centimetres and we do not mark high or low tide.

Bathing water

Out of season: 13

Latest analysis at each beach: 21/09/2026.

It is a periodic analysis, not today's water. The detail and the source are on each beach page.

Verdict for today only; each beach's page has the reasons and sources. It does not replace the instructions of the authorities at the beach.
