Gipuzkoa's sixty kilometres of coastline, facing the Cantabrian Sea, alternate cliffs, sheltered inlets and beaches, with fishing villages along the coast. East of San Sebastián lie the bay of Pasaia, Mount Jaizkibel and the bay of Txingudi, with its marshes, Hondarribia and Cape Higuer; to the west, towards Mutriku, come a series of beaches and towns such as Orio, Zarautz and Getaria.
Between Zumaia, Deba and Mutriku, the Basque Coast Geopark covers a narrow coastal strip. Its cliffs expose the flysch, a succession of rock layers laid bare by the sea along some 13 kilometres of coast.
