About Playa de Mónsul

Mónsul beach lies within the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, in the municipality of Níjar. It is about 300 metres long with dark sand, and is marked by a large living dune which, depending on the wind direction, covers one of its faces with sand. It is surrounded by walls of lava, and a large rock with a tongue of lava runs from the beach into the water. Scenes from films such as Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and Lawrence of Arabia were shot here.
